PlayStation Plus has been a roll lately, and June 2021 is looking like another solid month of free games. As part of your subscription, you’ll get two games on day of release — one PS4 game and one PS5 game — and a recent title from a certain franchise about space wizards and laser swords.
First up, that brand sparkling new PlayStation 5 game, Operation: Tango. This is a co-op spy adventure that requires you to get online and use your microphone to communicate with another player to solve your missions. One of you is an agent, the other one is a hacker, and neither of you can see each other’s screens.
There are PS4 and Steam versions launching on the same day, but only the PS5 version will be free. Don’t worry though, as there’s cross-play and a Friend Pass system that means friends can join in your game even if they don’t own a copy. We’re hoping this one takes off, because asymmetrical multiplayer and verbal communication games are just fun.
Next we’ve got Virtua Fighter 5: Ultimate Showdown, a remake of the latest entry in SEGA’s long-running fighting series, that was originally released as a PlayStation 3 launch title in Europe. It received very strong reviews upon first launch for its highly-refined combat, so we’re intrigued to see if it holds up.
This will be a PS Plus freebie for June and July, while it will also be available to PlayStation Now subscribers on the same day, a first for Sony. We don’t know how many PS Now players on console don’t also have PS Plus, but if there any PC-only players who sub to PS Now for the streaming, you’ll get this from day one, which is pretty sweet.

Finally, there’s Star Wars: Squadrons, a spiritual successor to the beloved Rogue Squadron games on Nintendo 64 and Gamecube (that also inspired the movie Patty Jenkins is making). Jumping in a ship and going pew-pew is always fun, but now it’s online.
There’s also a decent story here as you play both New Republic and Imperials in a post-Return of the Jedi setting, but the best thing about the package is that it’s entirely playable in VR. If you’ve got the hardware, you need to experience flying right up close to a Star Destroyer, doing major damage, then swerving off just before you hit the bridge.
These games will be free to claim from Tuesday, June 1. You’ve got until then to claim Battlefield V, Wreckfest and Stranded Deep to your library.
You can claim, download and play any and all Plus freebies as long as you have an active subscription.
